One day after saying publicly that he felt sad for former wide receiver Plaxico Burress’ being imprisoned, the New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin told reporters that he was planning to have trip to visit Burress in jail.
Burress is serving a two-year sentence in upstate New York on second-degree weapons chargers and he has had other visitors recently, including Giants quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan and former teammate defensive end Michael Strahan, who has been with the Giants for fifteen seasons since putting on NFL jersey as a second-round draft pick in 1993.
Burress was accused of second-degree weapons chargers after he accidentally shot himself at a Manhattan nightclub in late 2008 with a gun unlicensed in the state of New York. He is expected to be freed by the spring of 2011 and Coughlin has said that he believes Burress would return to NFL but did not comment on whether the Giants would sign the receiver back by then.
