Jets QB will return for training camp despite knee surgery

The New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has been confirmed by his team to have a surgery to repair the patella ligament that holds the kneecap in place with a few weeks, and it is very likely that he can wear back the Jets jersey in time for training camp.

Being a starter in his rookie season, Sanchez has performed well enough to lead the Jets to the AFC title game against the Indianapolis Colts, although falling a win short of becoming the first rookie quarterback to start in the Super Bowl. Despite throwing 20 interceptions during the regular season, Sanchez had only two interceptions in the three postseason games he played for the Jets, and was one of the only two rookie quarterbacks who won two playoff games along with Baltimore Ravens Joe Flacco. His production in regular season was 2,444 yards and 12 touchdowns but with a dismal 63.0 quarterback rating, but his performance during playoffs seemed improved a lot- 41 of 68 for 539 yards with four touchdowns and a 92.7 rating.

Sanchez dislocated the kneecap during fall practice before his junior season at Southern California and aggravated the injury while playing against the Carolina Panthers on Nov. 29. He made the decision to have surgery after having both knees examined by team doctors last week and seeking a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala. The repairing surgery will help prevent future tweaks to the kneecap area.
