As the regular season ended on Sunday night, it was almost sure that the Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning will earn his second consecutive MVP title this year by leading the Colts to a 14-2 record, the best mark in the NFL.
Manning completed a career-high 6839 percent of his passes for 4,500 yards and 33 touchdowns with 16 interceptions, not the most among the quarterbacks of the league. New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, Minnesota Vikings Brett Favre and Green Bay Packers Aaron Rodgers each had much more remarkable seasons than Manning, with higher quarterback ratings. But still the 33-year-old quarterback earned the most votes for MVP by leading the Colts to a win in every game he started and finished— something none of the other top contenders can boast.
Brees ranks second on the meter and still deserves to be considered on almost equal footing with Manning by setting an NFL record of completing 70.6 percent of his passes. San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers followed him. Favre still has not made it to top 3 but remains in top 5 along with Rodgers, whose No. 12 Packers jersey is replacing Favre’s NO. 4 to be Packers’ best seller.
