The New York Jets had their position for the playoff confirmed Sunday night by beating the Cincinnati Bengals 37-0. And they will have a rematch against the Bengals in the first round of the playoffs this Saturday at Cincinnati.
It was the Jets’ first playoff in three seasons. The team still appeared to be on the outside of the playoff hunt two weeks ago after losing a game to the Atlanta Falcons, and even Coach Rex Ryan mistakenly said his team’s playoff chances were over. But turnover then came. With the undefeated Indianapolis Colts pulling out Peyton Manning and other stars to the bench, the Jets won the key game over the Colts at 29-15. After that, wide receiver Braylon Edwards boldly told the fans that the Jets would not lose.
It was also the Jets’ first shutout at home since beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 6-0 on Dec. 14, 2003. A lot of people wearing green and white Jets jerseys waved white rally towels with the words “Win And We’re In” in green letters and the sky was filled with green and white confetti after the game.
